Hey gang, I am looking for a used Garmin or similiar GPS for hiking and backpacking. Needs to be able to load topo maps. Just need something that works and is cheap. Did you upgrade....and have an old unit collecting dust? Thanks DIP

I'm strictly old fashioned---maps and compass for me. I have a friend with a very smart phone and he just dials up a map and enlarges it to show the exact terrain. It also has a compass built into the phone. Pretty cool.

Where I do find the GPS essential is on the sailboat. It makes a great navigation tool, especially when the weather conditions are a problem or at night.

Very true....the Lowrance HD with 24mi Radar is hooked to the boat, in the huntington harbor LOL So...I need a hand held land unit. Yes the phone works, but looking for lat and long for old mines and the just a pain. I am sure someone has something or is familiar with a decent product that wont set me back hundreds of dollars.
