Hiking poles

I read an article in the Idyllwild Town Crier a few weeks ago on hiking poles. How did the ones you got work for you? They can be expensive, but the right ones are supposed to be a great aid and boost for hiking.

The one I have are adjustable for different heights, and have different "adapters" for snow, dirt, and rocks. It helps mostly up hill for me because I can use my arms, in addtion to my legs, so that my thigh muscles don't have to take all of the weight. On flat surface and down hill, I couldn't tell the difference.

I bought mine for $10 at walmart. I wouldn't trust it for multi-day hikes or snow, but it's done me good for some hardcore hiking trips.
