Carpinteria State Beach

went there over the weekend. I won't be going back, lol.
The campground is next to the railroad tracks and it's loud.
Also the beach was pretty dirty. Not much of a view and
it wasn't much of an experience. condos and stores next
to it etc..

I haven't been to Carpinteria State Beach, but I have camped at McGrath Beach State Park, which is just south of the Santa Clara River mouth south of Ventura. I thought it was a great place. There was a nature trail, enough of a surf break for body surfing, and a nice set of campsites. There were no trains.

McGrath is a great place to camp, no complaints there. Carpinteria don't come anywhere close to McGrath. They reserve all the prime spots for the RV and tent campers get the leftovers. That and San Ofre was 2 of my disappointments in socal.

Carpinteria isn't my cup of tea either but my co-worker and her group love it there. I like El Capitan SB. While my site didn't have the clear view of the ocean it was a short walk to the beach. Our site was very large and we had plenty of spaces to put our tents up. While El Capitan is far from perfect it just seemed to fit my camping needs. I can't wait to go back; especially since I just got a new RV to camp in.

capinteria is a fun family place and good for people who like to shop and not cook. McGrath is a totally different type of camping. i like both places. Havent been to EL Cap in many years. i do remember liking it though. a place that is fairly close to both Carp and Mc Grath that i REALLY liked was Lake Casitas campground. It it a HUGE campground with over 400 spots i believe. a nice huge lake and for those of you who like Frisbee Golf I think there is 4 full courses through out the campground.
