Tarp attachment devices

I found these things at the Depot the other day and bought seven just to have with me camping. They cost a buck something and seem like just the thing in an emergency.

I use tarps for shade in the summer and rain cover in the winter and every now and then a wind comes up hard and blows out the grommet. Modern tarps have a fairly weak grommet system. I do bring extra grommets for a long-term fix, but for the short term, this new device seems like just the thing.

Other times, I have a tree in the way of the grommet I normally use to tie the tarp, so this device will give me some flexibility as to where I attach my line.

I had a chance to try these out this weekend. GREAT! I used one for the trash bag, locked it onto the bag then tied it to a post at the campsite. Also used one for my hand towel next to the water jug. At first I thought I would keep these in my tent bag or rope bag, but now they are in the cooking and everyday camp stuff crate with the clothespins. I initially bought six. It may take a few trips to figure out, but I might need more.

The thing is just a clamp that, because of the jaws, can get a good grip on thin sheets of fabric or plastic. It has a ratcheted slide that locks it in place and a release. Then there is a ring to tie a rope to. It is like the ultimate clothes pin with a place to tie a rope. Very handy device for a lot of stuff. I tripped over a line tied to my tent last month and ripped the grommet out. This device would have substituted nicely, until I made the repair.

I see. Simple but very effective design.

If you look carefully at the photo, you will see the camp stove stand, the water jug on the lower shelf which weighs down the stand and keeps it stable, the bungies holding the stove to the stand for wind (which I had last weekend), and the "S" hooks for hanging pots and pans and towels and stuff. I always hang my cast iron frying pan on the other side, away from the spout of the water jug.
