But, if you want to always be in compliance, go to the SBNF site and check. Fire danger is increasing and currently HIGH. Do not make campfires if there is a significant wind blowing--even in approved sites. Gas and propane stoves will blow over and ignite the underbrush in a high wind.

It is time to be fire-safe.

Do you own and use one? I have never used it until a few days ago because I don't typically go camping with a group of people. Camping is typically me and/or wife/kids. :D It's very useful if your group does separate activities throughout the day and trying to figure out where everyone is, especially where there's no cell phone signal. We used it to give out our coordinate for people that came up to Holcomb later in the night, and maintain contact with base camp while we were out hiking on different trails. I got a set of Cobra 20-mile radio, but we were on channel 8.1 so range was limited. From what I read, 1-7 are shared with FRS/GMRS, 8-14 FRS channels are low power, 15-22 are GMRS only.

A few friends and I were up in Holcomb Valley this weekend. We camped off of 3N07 road. Apparently, they're doing some constructions toward the intersection of 3N43 and 3N07. It was in the high 30's at night and mid 70's in the morning.
In the morning, a forest worker came by our site and checked to see if we have proper permit for the fire. Good thing we do.
