Went to my favorite spot on Thursday. It could not have been better. The birds sang, the woodpeckers pecked wood, the flies flied, the bees hummed, the hummingbirds sat on the tent ropes, everything was perfect. Ted (the poodle) was not even bit by a rattlesnake when he startled him (or her) in the middle of the road. Everybody lived, including the snake, and Gunner and Ted and I were very careful the rest of the time there under the black oaks. I left Saturday afternoon and drove ten miles to the cabin so I could watch game 7 of the Laker-Nugget series.

Here are the photos. More stuff in the food and gear sections. If you count the rattles on this snake you will find he has shed at least eleven times. But the way the last rattle looks, he may be much older and has dropped rattles along the way.

Hey guys me and my wife have started to try and get more outdoorsy and get in better shape so we started going on hikes. Well since I am also trying to learn web design I decided that we should make a blog about our different hikes to help others find them and get a little info about them. We will also be doing write ups on campsites and shooting sites but those will be less common.

Well I would love to pick your guys brains for your favorite hikes that I should check out. We are very much beginners and just looking for small day hikes we can do with our two dogs.

As much as I would love to post a link I will refrain as I do not want to break any forum rules.

I bought a cheap auxiliary power pack from the local auto parts place and it was junk. It broke in three different ways within 48 hours and I returned it for my money back. Then I bought a Diehard. Very impressed. I use it for auxiliary power and in case of emergencies. I travel solo and there are times I worry about electrical issues---a jump. This solves that problem and powers/recharges the iPad when it is low.

Sunday at the gas station in Kraemer Junction, someone approached me for a jump. Jumper cables. I didn't need to dig them out, just furnished my Diehard. It worked great---five times. It did not fix the fact that his alternator was shot.

What the thing has a problem with is the switches are in the strike zone. Unless I carefully position it in the load, something hits it and either triggers the light or the compressor. At least when the compressor is triggered, I know it. Great tool, needs improvement.

I went up to Reilly last Friday and left Sunday. It was hot! But not too hot. A breeze blew off and on most of the time. The desert is extremely dry this year. Normally Reilly would have thirty different plants blooming and a lot of wildlife. This year--nothing. I still love the place. It is my favorite place to camp.

This time I had an oil leak from the bell housing and I thought there was big trouble for the Willys. I called some friends on the CB as they were headed for Isham Canyon in their 4wd rigs on Saturday and two of them stopped by afterward with some oil for my transmission.

Sunday I packed up and then used my special filler bottle I made to put a pint of fluid in the T-90 three-speed. Then drove home with no more leaks and no problems.
The little headlamps and flash lights I use for backpacking just to cut it for lighting up a camp site. I was very impressed with the construction and "feel" of this light. It collapses down for storage and when collapsed the on/off button is protected from accidental battery killing. The light is very good too. I would like to test it against my friends traditional lantern. I like the fact that there is no pumping, no fuel, no fire. I am very happy with the purchase.
