I have wanted to camp in the Alvord Mountains for a few years and this weekend was the chance. I loaded Ted and Gunner into the Willys and pulled out of the driveway Friday at 8. I drove around the block and pulled back in the driveway. My new Holley 2 brl carb miss-functioned and it was time to switch back to the old Holley 2 brl. 20 minutes later I was back on the road to the Alvord Mountains.

After driving through Victorville on the 15, I pulled off at Wild Wash Road so the dogs could get out for a minute and I could have a cold refreshment. When I went to head back onto the freeway, the clutch pedal dropped an inch or so lower than normal. Long story short, replaced the hydraulic with wire a few years ago, ya de da, wire about to break, few strands left, lay on my back on a tarp under the Willys, 2 hours later, new wire, cobbled together, Alvord's here we come.

I got there at 3, found a great campsite, made some good food, had a nice weekend, and recommend the place if you bring spare parts for your vehicle, want to see a very cool mine, and like wonderful desert views.

So that food thing is breakfast---a really great breakfast. Take a sausage--any kind is fine Italian is best-- brown it for a few minutes, then put some spaghetti sauce in a pot (Rau's Marinara is best but $9 a jar. I use Hunts Roasted Garlic and Onion---$2.) When the sauce is hot and bubbling drop in two eggs. Don't stir. Put on the lid and poach the eggs in the sauce. Add the sausage. Toast some French role or Italian bread. Serve the poached eggs, sauce, sausage, and a sprinkle of shaved Parmesan over the toasted bread.

This is a really great breakfast. You will be unable to stop yourself from eating a giant pile.

I did not see any chukar. There was no spring which usually (but not always) is something chukar like.
