We just got back from an El Capitan State Beach Camping trip. It was fun and relaxing. We stayed in spot 12, next to the creek, a short walk to the beach and restroom. The restrooms were fairly clean, had hot coin operated showers. Our spot didn't have a view of the ocean, however, it was close and nicely setup. We did take a took around at all the other camp spots for future reservations. Since we went in the beginning of the off season - Oct 2-4 2011, it wasn't too crowded. even thought the prime spots are reserved up to 7 months in advance our spot wasn't bad at all. I dragged my popup up there for my two grandkids, wife and myself. My niece and brother in-law popped a tent.
The camp host was very friendly as with anyone we ran across. Kids riding bikes and hiking the nature trails. We ran across a rope swing for some fun. We saw plenty of dolphins and seals. The sunset was magnificent. Weather was perfect, no winds.
Just watch out for the Racoons and Skunks trying to get into your coolers and stuff at night. We had about 10 Racoons that we saw go through camp as with two skunk. Shined a flash light towards them and they took off. Also, you couldn't have any generators on before 10am or after 8pm. so instead of using a drip coffee maker, we had to go old school. LOL
Definitely going back. make it a regular camping destination.
