New Shady Rest - Mammoth Lakes, CA.
We love it because of the mass number trees, the size of the campsites and it's central location. Many of the Upper campgrounds in Mammoth are too small for our trailer, and are not within walking distance of town. Don't be fooled though, just because it is so close to town does not mean that you don't need to utilize those bear resistant food containers if you're tenting it (last trip we had bear tracks about 2 feet behind our trailer).

Another one...
Yucaipa Regional Park - Yucapia, CA
For a relaxing weekend of sitting around and eating we like to visit this place, particularily during apple season because the campground it only about 5 min away from Oak Glen and it's apple farms. Very large grassy sites with a good amount of room between you and the neighbors. Two fairly large lakes on the park with plenty of trails and kid's playgrounds. During the summer months one of the lakes is open to swimming and paddle boats, and they stock seasonal fish year-round.
San Clemente State Beach - San Clemente, CA
Campground is situated on a cliff right above the beach. Hook-up sites are large enough for large RV's and trailers, but little room between sites. We like this campground due to it's proximity to the beach (a walk from the cliff down to the water apprx. 5-8 min), but good luck getting a hook-up site during the summer months. There are non-hookup sites that may be a little easier to get reservations for, but those book up fast too.
Another option instead of San Clemente would be San Onofre Campground on the other side of the freeway. Larger more private sites, but a much longer distance from the beach (either bike or drive). You often see wild bunnies, quail and chipmunks at this campground.

This sounds like a fun place. I like to camp under a lot of trees, and prefer Winter over Summer. I'm going to try to put this on my schedule for this year.

Oh I'm being a little bitch, but post them :D
My God! What a can of worms. First off, I have a favorite camp spot (not in a campground) and I am not telling anyone where this place is located for all the obvious reasons. Truth be told, I could probably tell everyone where it is and nobody would go there anyway.
In southern California we are very lucky because we have year-round camping. The desert is my favorite place for fall and winter and early spring. Everything is elevation sensitive. At Christmas in Anza-Borrego the temperature is a mild 70 degrees and some flowers are already blooming!
I have camped extensively in all our desert locations and will be posting through-out this next desert camping season. Now for a taste of my favorite spot. Reilly. There I said it. Now try and get there.

One of my favorite Campgrounds is Rogers Campground in Lancaster, New Hampshire. You are in the mist of the White Mountains in the Presidential Mountian Range. The scenery is amazing. You're surrounded by natures beauty, waterfalls, mountains, mountain lakes and streams and lots of critters. I chased moose almost every night I was there trying to get a good picture. It's more of a resort that offers tent and trailer camping and also cabins and a motel for those who want a bit more luxury. I think watching a storm come over the mountain one night was one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen.
I'm not familiar with that campground, although I have spent six month in Vermont and took trips to New Hampshire on a regular basis. Mt Washington in the White Mountains is 6,300' which puts it above tree line. Out here in California we have valleys higher than that.
In the Panamint Mountains west of Death Valley is Telescope Peak at 11,000. If you drew a straight line to Badwater, the lowest point in the US, you would be about 18 miles away. That includes 14 miles of flat valley floor.
Although the following photo is looking across DV at the northern end of the Panamints, it does not include Telescope Peak.

We are in Carpinteria for the FIRST time in like 3 weeks. Is there someplace or some restaurant that we HAVE to see?
There is a market on the north side of the freeway, east of the polo grounds and nurseries with a great taco / Mexican food butcher shop. I try and stop there when I am in Carpenteria.
The best Latin food in the Santa Barbara area is on Milpas about a mile west of the off-ramp. The place sits by itself in a lot and I believe it is painted blue or something. People line up outside the building and wait to order. They have an enclosed patio where you can eat. It may actually have some of the best food in the Southland.
I apologize for not having the names of these places, but they will come to me eventually and I will update the post when they do.

When we camp I do 99% of the cooking. I use the fireplace, a two burner coleman and a portable coleman propane grill. I do cakes in my dutch oven, as well as stews. Food tastes better camping that’s why I have to walk around the CG so much in order not to gain weight….

Well.. I like almost every campground because I just need a reason to go for camping. You know, I use to search campgrounds from campground directory (http://www.thatsnotcamping.com/campgrounds/) and decided whether to move after getting all the information.
