I finally got out this past weekend and had a chance to camp. My father's final illness and death at 96 last month did not allow me to keep my schedule of hitting the campsite every two weeks. This weekend myself and a buddy went up to Fuller Ridge in the San Jacinto's and camped at yellow post #6--a favorite spot.

Now that school is back in session, the campgrounds and campsites are empty. Get out there people! This is the perfect time for about another month to hit the high country and have the place to yourself---and of course a few deer hunters.

We hiked up to the Black Mountain lookout and then drove down the north side to the gate to Camp Lackey, the old burned out YMCA camp. This trip I used the low road and an easy quarter mile walk for the dogs and humans. Then we returned to camp and listened to some USC and UCLA games on the radio. All in all a great weekend.

The high was about 75 and at night it was in the 50's at the coldest. Just remember, it can get cold almost anytime of year in the mountains so be prepared.
